The Far Away Road

The road that leads to the glory of God is a joyous one indeed,
You’ve finally made it through the gate, in life's tests you did succeed.
Without spot or blemish you approach the mount on which the Lord resides,
You’ve done your part in the Army of truth to beat back the evil tide.

But not all who try will be able to open that precious narrow gate,
Although they seek they will not find, theirs is a different fate.
Their lot is to enter the gates to hell, they’re always standing ajar,
Although their mouths seemed close to God, their hearts were always far.

To walk the road of glory and love, the far away road to reward,
We must be willing to carry a shield, wear armour and use the Spiritual sword.
Do like we say, don’t be afraid, be a shining example to others,
Repay evil with kindness, live Godly lives and consider all mankind as brothers.

We must always forgive to be forgiven ourselves, in this do not be lacking,
Study Gods Word, pray for the saints and fellowship without slacking.
Open our eyes to the plight of the world, go forth preach mercy and hope,
Have faith in our God, be faithful in trials, be strong overcome and cope.

For it’s easy to sink to despair and defeat when under the enemies guns,
When strength departs, fear rises up causing a once brave army to run.
In disarray we’re helpless, self pity becomes our concern,
And before too long, we’re back in the flesh, waiting for the tables to turn.

But God doesn’t need us to lead an attack, only to stand and endure,
If only we would remember this our defeats and dishonours would be fewer.
God has seen fit to give us his Spirit, a Spirit of power not fear,
So call on him often for courage and verve, and give Satan a kick in the rear.

As you can see, the road to God’s gate is pitted and not smooth at all,
So walk with eyes open and head up high, or risk a bad stumble or fall.
Though it’s hard to be worthy to enter the gate, our effort is worth the try,
Let’s take a deep breath, give it our best and for salvation together we’ll strive.

AUTHORS NOTE:
The road is indeed full of potholes and trenches strategically placed to trip us up and prevent us from passing through the gate to glory. It is going to take a special person to successfully navigate the road and pass unscathed through the narrow gate. How can we just assume that we will go straight to Heaven upon our demise, without having to work for the privilege? It pays to remember that their is no middle gate, you either go through one or the other, so let’s strive to follow the Gospel of Christ as close as we can and maybe, we might get there.
