Why Worry?

In this complex environment we’ve made for ourselves,
Our lives are riddled with worry,
Bit if into the things of God we would delve,
Our attitudes would change in a hurry.

Are you worried about bills? Can you pay them on time?
Are you worried about pollution? The Earth buried in slime.
Are you worried about work? Will you ever be employed?
Are you worried about fire? Will your home be destroyed?
Are you worried about crime? Are you the next target?
Are you worried about investment? Term deposit or stock market?

Do you worry about religion? Are you doing it right?
Do you worry about marriage? Will your spouse want to fight?
Do you worry about vandals? What and where will they strike?
Do you worry about hose guests? What food do they like?
Do you worry about cars? Will it move without towing?
Do you worry about the garden? Does the lawn require mowing?

Should you worry about food? Is it nutritious enough?
Should you worry about politics? All the bulldust and bluff.
Should you worry about storms? Are you safe under shelter?
Should you worry about airlines? Flying Quantas or Delta.
Should you worry about disease? Will you get sick and die?
Should you worry about heat wave? Are we going to fry?

Would you worry about violence? Are you going to get mugged?
Would you worry about spying? Are your phones being bugged?
Would you worry about flood? Will your life wash away?
Would you worry about super? Will the Government pay?
Would you worry about accidents? Is everything safe?
Would you worry about education? University or TAFE?

Why worry about inflation? The value of money.
Why worry about personality? Being serious or funny.
Why worry about earthquake? Will the buildings be rocked?
Why worry about your health? Are your arteries blocked?
Why worry about weight? Will I get fatter or leaner?
Why worry about your job? The grass is not always greener.

All these and more wear us down day to day,
We all feel and experience tension,
But if you give your worries to Jesus he’ll say,
What kept you? And look after you without exception.

AUTHORS NOTE:
I refuse to be a total hypocrite and tell you that I don’t spend half my life worrying about all the things mentioned in this poem, because I do. We all need constant reminders, that our stay on this world is only a drop in the ocean of eternity, and therefore any problems that occur while we are here, are of no great concern. The Lord is there to worry for us, we are here to serve the Lord.
